2nd Grade Homework
Homework in our classroom is designed to ensure that:
1. Children develop good habits by transferring their school reading to home. Children are expected to read nightly.
2. Each child has their unique needs met. The homework menu is based upon choice. Parents can choose from a tailored menu with mixed level math and spelling activities.
Monday through Thursday homework is as follows:
20 minutes: Student will read his or her readers workshop book, or a section of it, and writes it on the reading log.
10 minutes: Parent chooses one learning activity from the weekly homework menu per night. Each week there will be a choice of 3 different spelling/ word work activities and 2-4 math activities per week.
How do I know which choice is right for my child?
If your child...
1. cannot independently spell most of the words on his/her weekly spelling list
2. demonstrates knowledge and a solid comfort level of weekly spelling pattern
3. demonstrates mastery of weekly spelling pattern

**As easy as it is to hold children accountable for this written work, the nightly reading remains the most important homework piece.
